Maps & Directions
Located in the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern North Carolina and bordering both Virginia and Tennessee, Ashe County is a relaxing Appalachian mountain retreat – located only 86 miles from Winston-Salem and 118 miles from Charlotte! Four primary, well-developed highways—US 421, US 221, NC 16, and NC 88—offer easy access to major interstates, including complete four-lane travel from I-77 to Jefferson.
If you prefer a more relaxed route, take the almost 30 miles of Blue Ridge Parkway that wind throughout the scenic southeast corner of Ashe County. The Parkway also provides numerous access points for the Appalachian Trail and the Mountains-to-Sea Trail for those arriving on foot.
Or, perhaps you’d like to reach the coolest corner from the highest elevations. The Ashe County Public Airport offers pilot-controlled lighting and a 5,002-foot long east/west runway, and with numerous commercial airports being a brief drive away, it has never been easier to reach Ashe County!
