Local poet Sandy Lassen will read mountain folk poems from her book “The Teeth of Southern Smiles,” plus tell tales about her area ancestors and their descendants. Sandy is a native Floridian who arrived in Ashe County in 1989 and discovered that half her mom’s ancestors were from the Ashe County area in the late 1700’s when it was still part of Wilkes. Sandy will be talking about why her ancestors left, where they went, and how she was the first one from her branch of the family to move back.
