Education
Ashe County has a small but progressive school system with 3,200 students enrolled in its three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. Eight pre-school classes serve 114 three and four year olds. Schools are housed in modern facilities, the newest of which opened in 2004. Additional classrooms have been built at all three elementary schools and new science laboratories opened at Ashe County Middle in 2008.
Ashe County Schools have a tradition of academic excellence, consistently scoring well on the NC State Assessment tests. During the 2008-2009 school year, four out of five schools achieved high growth as defined by the State ABC standards. Out of 255 teachers, our elementary schools have 35% with advanced degrees, the middle school has 45%, and the high school has 33%. Our school system has 30 teachers with national board certification. For more information, visit www.NCReportCards.org/src/.

Ashe County students are provided opportunities to participate in both visual and performing arts. At the high school level, students may choose to extend their study to piano, guitar, banjo, choral music, or band. Visual arts classes are offered at all grade levels.
Collaboration is essential to the success of each school. Partnerships with the Ashe Campus of Wilkes Community College, Ashe County 4-H and other local agencies, businesses, and the faith community are a valued part of educational programming.
