The Blue Ridge Parkway runs from Shenandoah National Park down through Cherokee. Nearly 26 miles of the Parkway goes through Ashe County, offering great hiking trails, picnic areas and magnificent views.

One of the most ecologically significant sites in the southeast. The mountain's unique geology, hydrology and ecology intertwine to create an unusual mixture of habitats and wildlife. The hike is approximately two miles over rocky terrain of medium difficulty and takes about four hours. Guided hikes by appointment only.

Rugged hillsides, pastoral meadows and bucolic farmlands surround one of the oldest rivers in the world, the New River. Enjoy hiking, camping, canoeing, picnicking and much more. Access the park eight miles southeast of Jefferson, 1.2 miles east of the intersection of NC 16 and NC 88 or 8 miles northeast of Jefferson, by taking Hwy. 221.
